OVERVIEW

This interactive workshop will explore two interconnected aspects of the human experience — the universal encounter with loss and the narratives we create around those experiences, particularly in healthcare settings. The first half of the workshop delves into loss in its many forms—not only through death but also through life changes, transitions, and intangible experiences—highlighting the shared grief and resilience that unite us. Through reflection, literature, film clips, and music, participants will explore the diverse expressions of grief and develop tools for self-care and healing.

The second half of the workshop transitions into the art and science of storytelling through medical charting, where participants will examine how chart notes shape patient care and relationships. With insights into reducing bias and strengthening therapeutic alliances, attendees will learn techniques to make their documentation not only clinically accurate but also compassionate and inclusive. By blending shared reflection with practical strategies, this workshop aims to deepen both personal and professional approaches to the interconnected themes of reducing bias and fairness in chart noting.
