                      Ethics Services

                      Amy Vandyke, MSW, LSW, PhD

Abstract: This presentation will explore the concept of trauma, including research on its origins and best practices which can be utilized to reduce the likelihood of secondary, tertiary, or re-traumatization across many domains of healthcare. By examining the foundational principles and evidence-based practices derived from trauma research, participants will gain insights into how trauma affects individuals and communities and what can be done to mitigate its harm.  Additionally this session will focus on how to effectively incorporate a trauma-based approach to ethics consultation services, program development and implementation, as well as other organizational structures such as staff supervision. Attendees will engage in a reflective exercise designed to identify the next steps for advancing a trauma-informed approach within their area of organizational authority. The goal of applying this knowledge is to enhance service delivery and foster resilience, ultimately contributing to more effective and compassionate care within organizations.

                          on Health and Well-Being

                          Rebekah Apple, MA, DHSc

Abstract: Understanding the determinants of health is crucial for addressing health disparities and promoting well-being. These determinants encompass a variety of factors, including social, economic, and environmental influences. In recent years, social media has emerged as a significant player, often referred to as a "commercial determinant of health," due to its pervasive impact on health behaviors and perceptions. This interplay raises important bioethical questions, particularly concerning privacy, misinformation, and the commercialization of health information. By examining the intersections of social media, commercial interests, and ethical considerations, we can better comprehend how these elements shape health outcomes and inform public health strategies. This abstract highlights the need for a holistic approach to health determinants, emphasizing the importance of ethical frameworks in navigating the complexities of modern health challenges.
